pinch, punch, first of the month..

..February is one of those drifing months generally.
Dull, cold grey mornings fading into darkness at 5pm.
But 2010 February 1st has been a pleasure so far.
Blue skies, warmth (admittedly from the radiator but none the less) and parcels at my front door.

Porco Rosso and My Neighbour Totoro arrived!
(excuse awful phone camera photo and blue bear pj's)
This is my second Totoro DVD and I cannot express how much I've missed watching it!
It's definately urged me to paint a large totoro murial on my wall.
Today I also found a bunch of reference books on amazon that were reduced!
The only two major needs are to finish my US job application for this summer and paint.
I really need to get my motivation back in gear, I've been incredibly lazy with drawing and painting. I blame the National Socialism based essay.

Oh, back tracking slightly...but my weekend has also been pretty fantastic.
Friday evening I went on a rescue mission to Pontypool. That place is incredibly delapitated but Alex had managed to lock his car keys in his car. Ofcourse, initially my evening was spent making a make-shift dinner from the remnents of my fridge* watching Friends and highlighting quotes. Not really the fun filled life of a 22 year old but good enough for me. Naturally a road trip did seem more interesting. I got to Pontypool within the hour and hung out in Gethins recording studio with some of the guys.

*aforementioned meal. Tofu, broccoli, pepper, red onion, spring onion, zuccini and basmati rice. I cooked the Tofu and vegetables in a sweet chilli/tomato/ginger and balsamic vinigar based sauce with some cracked black pepper and herbs. It was incredibly make-shift and supprisingly tasty.

Saturday was the dreaded weekend of working. Retail is the bane of my life, and although it permits me to do my University course, travel and save for tattoos and other nice things I can just about bare the two days a week I'm subjected to the horrors of a shopping center. Luckily I finished at 4pm. I headed to the local 'vintage' store to see if there were some bargains I could pick up. It's been a month of no purchasing from the highstreet, and I'm feeling pretty strong and successful in my attempt!
Hobos did suprise me with its cheap sweaters! I bought two both totalled to £10!

The first has little polar bears prancing around the neck/chest are. Oversized for comfort factor!
£5 bargain!

Ofcourse my rediculous flower decoration is covering up the parrots but again, good purchase! Seriously, who needs the highstreet. I also bought a navy and white polka dot skirt, plain and fitting with any season.

I met Alex for coffee, and thanks to Polish Matt (I was introduced to him as this, so I feel obliged) who gave us two soup bowl sized decaf soya gingerbread coffees for free accompanied with stem ginger biscuits. Seriously delicious.

really, this photograph doesn't do the size any justice! I couldn't even finish it. And the buscuits were demolished before the camera had time to load. Naturally.

I later got ready to head to the Haiti benefit show in Le pub. The Shitty Limits were the headliners and seens as I've never seen them I really wanted to go! Support from Harbour who are always entertaining and other locals which gave a pretty credible bill, and for an amazing cause too!

Before heading to Newport we ate at Noodle box. Probably my new favourite fast food, and with Loyalty cards to! I had the Tokyo box with Udon noodles and a side of sweet potatoe cakes (this place is really suitable for vegans which is good news to me)

And absolutely everything can be recycled, they even have a counter where all parts of your waste can be sperated and put into seperate compartments! There's even two little holes for the chopsticks! If you live or visit Cardiff often eat here! It's a one off business unlike Wok to Walk!

The show was good fun! and with raffle and door entry I'm sure they made a substancial contribution to the Haiti Benefit. Catching up with old faces is always good. We headed back to Cardiff for some drinks in the local Barfly (Clwb Ifor Bach was not worth an attempt despite my friends birthday taking place there) Got home at 3am and chatted with my part time Lodgers Emma and G until 5am.

Final note, I got introduced to Cursive - they're on spotify. Check them out. 'The Ugly Organ' album.
